David's Biography and Statement

David is a Canadian Artist who has been painting for over 20 years.   He pursued his Art Degree at the University of Victoria. and although he is primarily self taught, he has taken some courses from other well known artists.

David and his wife spent several years traveling around the world.  This was a particularly rewarding experience being exposed to different cultures.  He was profoundly influenced by the natural beauty of the Caribbean Islands and countries like Turkey.  This gave him a new direction for his work in watercolour's, and he fell in love with painting floral scenes.  He also spent an enjoyable year traveling by boat around Vancouver Island, the west coast of British Columbia and up as far as the Queen Charlotte Islands. He loves the rugged coastline and the old growth forests along the British Columbia Coast and his feelings for this beautiful part of Canada is well represented in his works.  David paints a diverse range of subject matter, including wildlife but his main focus is on seascapes.

He has felt very honoured to be twice chosen by an international jury to represent Canada at an international art exposition in Europe.

Working out of his studio in Victoria, British Columbia, he features unique works in the medium of Watercolour, Acrylic, and Mixed Media.  David's work has also gained some international appeal, with paintings selling to clients in the U.S.A., some parts of Europe including Turkey, Japan and the U.K, and has been invited to show his works at select galleries in New York and Los Angeles.

Statement

My love of art has been inspired by the visual beauty of our country.  The range of work that I produce is characterized by a sense of realism, although I love the freedom that watercolours give when I apply wet into wet to create interesting values and patterns. In the last few years I have added the medium of acrylic and used it with watercolour to produce mixed media works involving wildlife, portraits, and abstract paintings.
